The VTL015 simulator is a noteworthy project with an interesting backstory. The journey began when I was approached by a person who offered the body of a VT Holden, which he had designed spoilers for. This generous offer led us to acquire the VT Holden body for our simulator.
Key Features and Build Process
- Generous Offer: The acquisition of the VT Holden body was a fortunate opportunity that set the foundation for the VTL015 simulator.
- Investment in Components: To complete the build, we invested fifteen thousand dollars in essential components, including glass, locks, latches, a firewall, and other necessary parts. This investment ensured that the simulator was built to high standards.
- Concurrent Build: The VTL015 was built concurrently with the VSL-016, ensuring that both the Holden and Ford simulators were a matched pair. Both machines had identical movement systems, electronics, and other components, allowing them to link together and race each other.
Popularity and Usage
- Mounting and Mobility: Once assembled, the VTL015 was mounted on a trailer, making it mobile and versatile. This mobility allowed it to quickly gain popularity at various events and locations.
- Advertising Campaigns: Over the years, the VTL015 has featured in various advertising campaigns and colour schemes, although it has predominantly been red. Its striking appearance and dynamic capabilities made it a standout promotional tool.
- Permanent Setup: Today, the VTL015 is permanently set up in Taupo, where it continues to be used by the public. Its accessibility and ongoing use highlight its enduring appeal and functionality.
